PPCA welcomes Support Act Funding

09 April 2020

PPCA welcomes the Federal Government's announcement today of targeted support for Indigenous Arts, Regional Arts and music industry charity, Support Act.

For over two decades, Support Act has provided much needed crisis relief for industry workers experiencing health and other issues that prevent them from earning a living. Support Act’s 24/7 Wellbeing Hotline further assists users which span the entire music industry – including songwriters, recording artists, crew members, promoters, publishers and more.

The $10M funding announced today will allow Support Act to provide more assistance to those impacted by current circumstances, and expand the capability of its Wellbeing Hotline to respond to demand, providing assistance to individuals and their families right across Australia.

The music industry was hit hard as a result of the restrictions that has led to venue closures and the loss of income for performing artists and related industry workers. Along with the already announced JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments, the new funding will help provide a safety net to help support music industry workers through these difficult times.

PPCA thanks the Australian Government, Mr McCormack and Mr Fletcher for recognising and acting on the very real need of that industry right now. We will continue to work with the Government to ensure the Australian Music industry survives this crisis.
