PPCA and Australia Council Announce New Recordings Grants Applications Now Open

19 January 2021

The Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) and the Australia Council for the Arts today announced a new round of recording grants. Applications are now open for five grants of $15,000 for Australian artists to create new recordings.

The partnership between PPCA and Australia Council for the Arts began in 2013 and new grant rounds have been announced every year. 2020 saw the partnership expand with a recording grant targeted to First Nations artists. Previous recipients of recording grants include ARIA Award winners Courtney Barnett, All Our Exes Live In Texas and Miiesha.

The 2020 recipients included hip hop collective South West Syndicate, electronic artist Angeline Armstrong, contemporary classical composer Jane Stanley, indigenous artist Birdz and Alice Springs hip-hop duo KnD.

George Ash, PPCA’s Chair said: “PPCA is delighted to continue this program in partnership with the Australia Council, and once again offer these grants to Australian creators. The program has delivered not only recordings that have enjoyed critical success, but covered a really diverse range of genres and styles. It is an initiative we are very proud of, and we can’t wait to see what this year’s group of grant recipients create.”

Kirsty Rivers, Head of Music at the Australia Council, added: “Australians and people across the world love listening to Australian music. Our research shows 92% of Australians listen to recorded music. Music provides a soundtrack for our lives, bringing us joy, connection, solace and helping us through our days.

“We are once again delighted to be working again with the PPCA to fund the creation of new Australian recordings and welcome applications from artists across all genres and regions to apply.”

Applications are now open and will close on 13 April 2021. For more information and to apply for a grant head to the Australia Council's website.
