2025 Election Priorities

ARIA and PPCA are proud to support the cross-industry Vote Music 2025 campaign, spotlighting music’s role in creating jobs, growing exports, and strengthening communities across the country.

As Australians head to the polls, ARIA and PPCA are calling for future-facing, music policies that harness the full potential our local scene has to offer. For those casting their votes this May – especially younger generations of Australians making up the majority of voters this election – music matters deeply. It is a part of daily life, identity, and connection. Investing in music is an investment in the energy and future of our culture.

Music is already one of Australia's most powerful cultural assets. It reflects life in modern Australia across a wide range of genres and sounds. It brings our cities and regions to life, strengthens community connection, fills venues and festivals, and takes our stories to the world. It brings joy and comfort. It is also a powerful economic contributor - behind every hit record is a supply chain of creators, local professionals, and businesses small and large. As the global music market races towards $163.7billion by 2030, Australia has the chance to turn local success into a global advantage.

This year, our priorities are clear:

  1. Protect copyright and ensure AI transparency
  2. Remove outdated radio caps
  3. Secure Music Australia’s future
  4. Increase prominence of Australian music

ARIA and PPCA CEO Annabelle Herd said “Australian music is a global success story that we should all be proud of. With the right policy leadership, we can make sure our local culture remains strong, that we grow jobs, energise communities, and take our stories to the world. This election is an opportunity for all sides of politics to back Australian music.”

“We are ready to work with all sides of politics, and across the Parliament, to ensure Australian music remains a focus. As the election campaign continues we are looking for the major and minor parties and independent candidates to commit to getting on with  long overdue critical reforms including removing unfair radio royalty caps, maintaining strong copyright settings, and pro-music policies that ensure Australians have a strong cultural base and a homegrown soundtrack to be proud of.”
